Tile Shopping Tips

Our showroom salespeople suggest these six steps before visiting the showroom. These tips are an accumulation of our over 40 years of tile experience, and work for new construction and remodeling applications. These shopping tips will prepare you in choosing the right tile for your particular needs.

1 - select the focus of the room

Will the focus be your cabinets? Your fixtures? Your flooring? Your view?

2 - pick the permanent items

Permanent items are your cabinets, bath fixtures, appliances, countertops, etc.

3 - pick the color scheme

Colors are an important consideration for each room, and we need to know what you are planning.

4 - consider your needs

Have you made a budget? Have you considered maintenance factors of your tile? If you don't know, ask us!

For example, homeowners should ask themselves, what kind of traffic will the flooring have on it? If it's a foyer that will rarely be used, marble would be great. If it's a home where you're going to use the foyer all the time, you may want to think about a polished porcelain tile that has a similar look to marble, but is a lot more durable and will stand up to wear and tear over a period of time.

5 - bring samples of permanent items to the showroom

With your samples in hand we can best match our tiles to your application. We suggest you bring a cabinet door, paint card, or wallpaper swatch and a sample of your countertop.

6 - tips to help you as you look for ideas

Colors can be different than what is seen in magazines, websites, etc. Tile is best seen in person. This allows you to feel the texture as well as know the shade variations of a particular tile.

Tile needs to be matched to your installation too, and we will assist you in making the right tile selection. We have the largest showroom in South Carolina and keep hundreds of tiles in stock. We also special order tile from all over the world.
